SOHS partnered with an English as a Second Language class at the Rogue Community College and worked closely with high intermediate/advanced adult students and their instructor and ESL Faculty Coordinator Kiersta Fricke-Gostnell.
"Stories of Home" explored themes of creating a sense of belonging that we all seek in our communities. Most of us living in Southern Oregon moved here recently - sometimes a few years ago, sometimes a few generations - and we can relate to the struggle of coming to a new place to find a new home. These students', in their own words, described their contributions to the community, advice for newcomers, and why they chose to move here.
The exhibition features student writing; portraits of the students, photographed by Greg Zurbrugg; and objects from the students' native countries.
"Stories of Home" was at the Medford Library March 29, 2013 - May 23, 2013 before moving to the Rogue Valley Mall May 23, 2013 - July 10, 2013 and the Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport July 10, 2013 - August 28, 2013.
