Education Programs Coordinator

Term: May 2016 - October 2016 (part-time, temporary, 25-30 hours/week)

Compensation: $14/hour

The Southern Oregon Historical Society (www.sohs.org) seeks a motivated, creative, and outgoing Education Programs Coordinator to manage high quality visitor experiences by conducting a variety of public programs for youths and families. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, overall program development, administration, and supervision of the all education programs at SOHS's historic Hanley Farm. This includes the Children’s Heritage Fair, Hanley Farm Summer Camps, Children’s Harvest Fair, children’s activities at Hanley events, the Children’s Educational Garden, and Farm Tours. These programs play a key part in fulfilling SOHS's mission “to make history come alive by collecting, preserving, and sharing the stories and artifacts of our common heritage.”

Those who apply should enjoy working with the public and volunteers. Experience working with children in educational settings is required. The successful candidate will be proficient with curriculum requirements, classroom management, and have the ability to put together activity lessons for groups of students/youth. A Bachelor's degree in Education, History, Science, or a related field is preferred. Applicants should be proficient in Microsoft Office, social media platforms, and the Gmail interface.

This is a part-time position on a flexible schedule and requires weekend availability. This position is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a background check. The successful candidate will be detail oriented, organized, and able to work independently. Must be able to work with and meet deadlines, lift up to 30 pounds, and work outdoors. Preference will be given to candidates with previous museum and/or educational experience and/or candidates wishing to pursue a career in museums/agriculture/education.
