The Southern Oregon Historical Society owns a unique collection of documents, photographs, maps, films and other materials that are integral to the history of the area. The Society also employs qualified staff and volunteers to manage and protect the collection. The Jackson County Library District has signed a contract with SOHS to assure the public has access to this rich collection. As a result of this partnership, the SOHS user fee will be waived for Jackson County residents, and the Archives will be open Tuesday – Saturday, noon-4, beginning on March 13 th.
The SOHS Board of Trustees looks forward to providing increased online access to its collection. Due to the partnership, all SOHS magazines published between 1981 and 2009 are indexed and available in full text. Additional materials will be made available over time.
Pat Harper, the Southern Oregon Historical Society Archivist, says, “SOHS staff and volunteers are eager to work with Jackson County Libraries staff to share our materials as widely as possible. This partnership allows us to adopt a public library model for sharing information while we continue to uphold the high standards of care and protection required for unique archival materials.”
