The SOHS Research Library

The SOHS Research Library reopened to the public on May 4, 2010. The library is situated at 106 N. Central Avenue in Medford and is open Tuesdays - Fridays from noon to 4 pm. Admission is free for members and $5 for non-members. Click here to become a member.

The Research Library is one of the biggest archival repositories in the state of Oregon. Our collection includes the Peter Britt collection of 10,000 glass plate negatives, an estimated 90,000 other photographs of southern Oregon, hundreds of maps and architectural drawings, over 1000 oral histories, business records, journals, diaries, and so on.

Reproductions from our photographic archives are available for purchase or for use in publications, or other media.

Public Tours and Field Trips

A variety of programs are available for adult and student groups. Facilities that are open to the public by scheduled tour include the Children's Museum, the Beekman House, and the Hanley Farm House. Tours of the Jacksonville Cemetery can also be scheduled. You may also request an on-site program.

As It Was Radio Program

"As It Was: Tales from the State of Jefferson" is a radio series co-produced by SOHS and Jefferson Public Radio.

Narrated by local actor Shirley Patton and written by SOHS contributors, each episode describes the forces and people that have shaped the State of Jefferson.
