Windows in Time: Giving 101 – The Carpenter Foundation w/ Alice Mullaly

February 8, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

FREE

Sixty five years ago, Alfred and Helen Carpenter established the Carpenter Foundation. In this Windows in Time talk on Feb. 1 at the Medford library and on ZOOM, and Feb. 8 at the Ashland Library, Alice Mullaly and Emily Mostue will be sharing the significance of the family’s philanthropies and the importance of the foundation.

In 1909 when the Carpenter brothers came to the Rogue Valley and planted an orchard, their significance to the Rogue Valley would not have been imagined. Following their story from farming to community building is inspiring.  The Carpenter Foundation, established in 1958, was an extension of the family’s personal efforts to enhance their chosen place to settle. And it has been a model for the founding of other local foundations. This valley would be very different without their efforts.

Alice Mullaly is a retired educator and local historian. She has presented several other Windows in Time presentations and is a long time volunteer at the Southern Oregon Historical Society where much of her research is done. She will be joined by Emily Mostue, third generation Carpenter family member in Medford, local farmer and business operator and an officer in the Carpenter Foundation along with her sister Karen Allen and other board members. Emily’s daughter Ali will accompany her.
