2023 Living History Summer at SOHS Hanley Farm
Experience a summer of “Living History” at SOHS Hanley Farm! Events include:
- Starting this Thursday June 8 from 5-8pm at Hanley Farm, the focus of activities is “Home
Sweet Home.” Take a guided tour the mid-19th century Hanley home. This historic home is
unique as everything in it are Hanley possessions, and the only occupant of the home was the
Hanley family. These special tours are $10 for adults and $5 for children (20% discount for
SOHS members). - Then, every second and fourth Thursdays thereafter, from 5pm to 8pm, there will be hands-on
activities as people in earlier times might have done them, as well as guided tours of the historic
Hanley home, hayrides, making butter and flatbread as they may have done while traveling to
Oregon in a covered wagon, actors portraying Hanley family members, and more. - In addition to all this, Thursdays there will popcorn and water for sale. Bring your own picnic
and enjoy the ambiance of Hanley Farm, take a self-guided tour of the farm, and visit with a
young Alice, Bill, or Claire Hanley. When you speak with Claire, be sure to ask her about her
sheep! - July 1 and 2, from 11am to 4pm, Hanley Farm features a new event, “History Hoopla,” a huge
extravaganza of activities, music, food, crafts, and contests! You will visit a mountain man
encampment, pan for gold, take a hayride, hear old-time stories, and – of course – more,
including toe-tapping old-time music!
